Little did the school community know then of the trials they were about to go through...
Last week Head of School Kerry Howard confirmed that Macksville Adventist School will no longer be opening its doors next February.
"The school will not open in 2020 after our full time staff, for differing reasons, move out of the area and our enrolment has dropped to only eight," she said.
All of this has happened so suddenly, in less than a month actually. It caught all of us off guard.
"With no permanent staff and less than 10 children the school was simply just unable to open in 2020."
But there's a rainbow at the end of every raincloud; Kerry said she is hopeful the closure will be only temporary.
"Seventh-day Advents Schools (NNSW) Ltd, have already commenced rebirth discussions and planning for 2021," she said.
"They are assisting current families financially as they transition to new schools for 2020.
"Senior leaders attended our closing program last week and stated, in person, their shared sadness at the closure for 2020, but their commitment to pursue a positive 'what next'."
