THE COMBINED North Coast and Central Coast (Streets) Boat Series carnival held at Scotts Head was a great success with 73 crews and about 300 rowers plus sweeps battling out 11 different divisions covering all age groups in male and female categories from Under 19 right through to the Masters 200-years plus (being the combined age of the four rowers).

Conditions for both days were good and the 3-4 foot swell provided some exciting moments. A strong north easterly in the afternoon made for tough going on the outward journey.
Mayor Rhonda Hoban welcomed the rowers to Scotts Head and started the first race.

In the Open Male Division, the Caves Beach ‘Meat Trays’ reigned supreme on both days while in the Open Female Division the Ocean Beach ‘Who Haa’ and the local Kempsey Crescent Head crew shared the honours.
In the Reserve Male Division it was also equal honours between the local Woolgoolga ‘Renegades’ and the Newcastle ‘Finapples’, while the Reserve Female Division was dominated by the Stockton ‘Miss Fits’ over both days.
In the Under 23 Male Division the Currumbin ‘Krakens’ were successful on the Saturday but the Ocean Beach ‘Goats’ beat them on the Sunday. The Under 19 Male Division was dominated by the McMasters Beach ‘UFCs’ over both days.
The Junior Female Division saw the local Wauchope Bonny Hills ‘The Boatettes’ dominate their Central Coast rivals over both days.
In the Masters Females there were shared honours between the Terrigal ‘Furies’ and the Woolgoolga ‘Not’s’.
The Masters Male over 160-years was dominated by the local Kempsey Crescent Head ‘Tips’ crew. In the Masters over 200-years division the Tea Gardens ‘EC’s’ were successful on the Saturday but the Soldiers Beach ‘9 Volters’ triumphed on the Sunday. The Macksville-Scotts Head ‘Scoundrels’ were the best of the local crews.
The Whale Cup – which is a combination of two male rowers and two female rowers – saw the strong Kempsey Crescent Head Club succeed on both days.
The Macksville-Scotts Head SLSC volunteers were kept busy providing water safety, first aid and support to the officials throughout the carnival. An ambulance had to be called for a rower who suffered cracked ribs after being struck by an oar.
The combined carnival will be held at Scotts Head for the next two years.
