Macksville was always gonna be a good chance when they had former legendary Cronulla forward Michael Porter steering the team bus.
With threatening skies overhead, Macksville started strongly with halfback Rhiley Maxwell laying on the first try with a beautiful cut-out pass to Oshay Tyerman, who fended off two defenders to score. Logan Jones converted and Macksville had a 6-0 lead.
Port hit back shortly to lock the scores up at six a-piece.
Macksville took the lead again, at 10-6, but once again Port fought back to level the scores at halftime.
The game became a grind with both sides going set for set with each other.
Macksville forwards started to grab the initiative with Travis Downton and Riley Mylrea leading the way.
On the back of this Finn Stevens was starting to create havoc out of dummy half and Malahkhi Donovan was finding some cracks in the Shark defence.
With the game in the balance, a repeat set caused by driving defence by Manny Sutton forced Port back over the try line.
Backchat by a Port player saw him sent for a spell in the bin.
Macksville took charge of the game from this point with four tries - two of these to Logan Jones, with one try an 80-metre solo effort, taunting the Port Sharks fullback.
The final score read 32-10, with Macksville recording their first win of the season.
Congratulations to rookie coaches Luke Shields and Joe Borg who are doing a great job moulding this team together.
Finally, well done to all players on the win. Keep working hard at training and there will be plenty more wins to celebrate.
