An indicator of sewage pollution remained high for an extended period, but on-going water testing indicates that faecal coliforms are now within acceptable limits.
Notwithstanding the test results, recreational users of Deep Creek should be aware that the estuary is an ICOLL (intermittent closing/opening lake/lagoon) and that water quality can be variable.
The catchment for the creek does contain potential sources of contaminants including urban runoff, on-site sewage management systems and agricultural runoff.
Council has programs in place to minimise the risk of contamination, but it's impossible to declare the estuary will always have water quality parameters that meet the standards for recreational use.
Everyone is advised to consider these factors before using the Deep Creek ICOLL.
