Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will not be a morning tea to launch their exhibitions. There is also a special feature exhibition called Biding Our Time, with art and craft works achieved by artists during the lockdown period.
Textural Expressions by Keith Tait
Having always been a visual person I progressed from psychedelic doodling in the 1960s to painting theatre backdrops and later working as a theatre designer.
Although an Australian, I spent 40 years in New Zealand in Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch. One of the highlights of my career was working on the construction of a set for the film Lord of the Rings. I also had three solo exhibitions in New Zealand in Wellington, Nelson and Kapiti Coast as well as one in Glebe, Sydney.
Two years ago I came to live in Nambucca Heads.
Textural Expressions is about fun with colours and shapes and includes a series of pyramid shapes highlighting the different effects of sunlight. I see colour all the time and think about it continuously.
I try to capture the subtlety of the blending between colours, tones and textures. I am strongly influenced by the French Impressionists. I am not a landscape painter in the sense of depicting a realistic representation of a scene but am more interested in representing the atmosphere and feeling of the scene.
Memories of the UK by Jenny Thorby
Jenny Thorby is a long-time resident of the Mid North Coast having grown up in Port Macquarie and lived on a property west of Kempsey for almost 20 years. She has resided in Nambucca for three years.
Having dabbled with paints for many years it was when Jenny took some private lessons a few years ago that she began to take her art seriously - the subject matter that appealed being old cars, old houses and flowers.
A trip to the UK last year formed the impetus for her exhibition which she has titled Memories of the UK and which include a selection of acrylic paintings, dry point, wood engravings and scratchboard.
"In this exhibition I am featuring old doors, old door knockers, and old houses of which the UK provides plenty of subject matter," Jenny said.
While in the UK, Jenny took the opportunity to visit the South Eastern Open Art Studios to learn about wood engraving and scratchboard.
"It is the ability to produce a fine line with the engravings and scratchboard that attracts me to this craft. I am motivated by professional engravers past and present both in Australia and overseas. As the materials needed are quite small it is an ideal form of art when travelling."
