It all started with three bales of hay and the hope of a bit more … that was back in August.

The first trip was made and connections made but the giving has not stopped.
“It has been amazing how the call we put out back then has kept on giving – people keep coming in with donations or are here to help with all the packing and wrapping,” Nambucca Heads RSL’s Wendy Mills said.
“It has become quite a production that has not only brought help to our farmers but also brought our community together.
“And that sense of community has given back to locals, some of whom are getting over their own traumas … being together helps.”
Recently Wendy and others headed back across the range, taking much needed hay, water, stockfeed, food, fish (locally caught and frozen), Christmas hampers and gifts to our farmers.
There are moments in your life that stay in your heart forever and become lasting memories…
- Wendy Mills
Here is her/your story:
“Once again upon our arrival in Tamworth we were met by the local Ute Club and escorted into town.....but not to the usual location....we were taken to the Pace Way where we were greeted with applause and smiling faces from some of our farmers.
Emotions were high and tears flowed. We met some of the most humble people who could not thank us enough, we were showered with hugs and words of thanks.
We met fifth generation farmers and heard stories that broke your heart, these people were not looking for our sympathy nor were they complaining they were just telling us about how things are.
It wasn't the stock feed water or food we took out to them that touched their hearts the most … it was the fact they felt they hadn't been forgotten.
- Wendy Mills
It's difficult to digest that some of these farmers have no water at all, they would much rather feed their stock than put food in their own mouths.
The most precious gift you can ever give is a moment of your time a kind heart and an understanding ear…
A huge thank you to Nambucca Heads Lions Club for donating 30 Lions Christmas Cakes for our hampers, special thanks to everyone who has donated Christmas gifts, food and toiletries as well as writing special messages of hope on a Christmas Card.
Our team of drivers arrived all the way from Berowra and loaded up with 150 bales of hay, stock feed, molasses, water and more, more , more.
Thank you Nambucca Valley and Coffs Coast for your continuing support.”
Wendy said this trip the team also headed further west to Narrabri and saw for themselves what a ‘green’ drought looks like.
“There is green grass coming through but it is too short to eat and all the dams are bone dry.
“The need out there is still extreme … we will going out again in the New Year – donations always welcome.”
Items can be dropped off at the Nambucca Heads RSL anytime.
Praise for your efforts on Facebook:
Sue-Ellen Wilkin I did mention you would need tissues. Wendy and Toni had the honour of being escorted to the main gate and was first to enter. The farmers they met are the forgotten ones by government and larger charities they still have the daily struggles. What you did was give them a gift of hope. The one thing I am told is its a great feeling knowing people care.
Michelle Saville: Thats wonderful great work for farmers that need it 👏💕
Boots for Bushies: Well done! :) If you are heading out that way again please keep an eye out for farmers that might need new boots and let me know.
Nat Taylor: You guys seriously rock!!!! ❤❤❤
