Virginia has called her exhibition Alchemy … that being the medieval form of chemistry which tried to find ways of changing metals into gold.
It is the process of taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary, sometimes in a way that cannot be explained.
The exhibition is a collection of artworks exploring the use of metallic paints, rust, patina, metals and texture integrating the foreground and background.
“Working with rust and patina you have little control over how the artwork will turn out as it is continually changing and evolving,” Virginia said.
“In these artworks the exploration of technique, medium, texture and the process has become more important than the image which, in turn becomes less important than the soul searching journey.
“We are all searching for the gold in our lives as I am in my art.”
Virginia’s exhibition will be launched with a morning tea on Wednesday, December 5 from 10.00 am … it will also be the Christmas party. Everyone is welcome to come along.
