It is alleged the man stole a vehicle from a petrol station at Urunga at around 5.30pm earlier the same evening.
Highway Patrol Officers noticed the vehicle in Macksville and started a pursuit along Boundary St.
Police said the man drove in an erratic manner through the golf course and onto the M1 before the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
The vehicle was allegedly located a short time later abandoned along Upper Warrell Creek Rd, Macksville, and police said the man was located about 10:45pm hiding at a Macksville residence where he was arrested and later charged with a number of offences.
He is currently refused bail to appear before Kempsey Local Court on December 10.
