He succumbed to his injuries on Monday at John Hunter Hospital.
Police are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash.
Update October 30, 8.30am: The second person involved in the Scotts Head Rd accident late yesterday morning has also been taken to John Hunter Hospital.
The 94-year-old man was originally being treated at Coffs Harbour Hospital for spinal injuries.
Overnight, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter has flown to Coffs Harbour Hospital to airlift the man to John Hunter, Newcastle, for further treatment.
Update October 29, 12.50pm: The Westpac Helicopter Critical Care Team has treated an 88-year-old man with chest injuries who will be flown to John Hunter for further treatment.
There are no details available about the second person at this stage.
Update 12.40pm: Our local RFS Control Centre has said the Scotts Head Brigade was helping with traffic control while three ambulances attended the accident.
To the best of their knowledge, the road has now been opened to traffic again.
12.20pm: A car carrying a driver and passenger has crashed into a tree on Scotts Head Rd, Scotts Head.
Ambulance officers are currently on scene and the Tamworth Rescue Helicopter has been dispatched to arrive in Macksville shortly to transport one person to hospital.
Neither person was trapped in the vehicle.
Local police were alerted to the accident just after 11am.
Police have said that motorists should avoid Scotts Head Rd for the time being which has been blocked by the accident.
The situation is ongoing and more details about the accident will be published when they are known.
