Our readers raised some very good points which we chased up with Service NSW.
Kim Duncan pointed out that the shop space chosen (in between the laundry and Lifeline) appears to be no bigger than a cubbyhole – not too conducive to an expansion of services, as promised.
“I would almost say it’s smaller than the one they use now. More parking yes, but space-wise, no,” she said.
The response to this enquiry wasn’t really very informative, simply stating that “the Service Centre will be about the same size as the existing motor registry and offer an extended range of services”.
So ostensibly this could mean longer queues, and more frazzled employees as the same number of staff try to tackle the ‘expanded’ range of bureaucratic paperwork.
But perhaps the plan is to push more of these services online.
“Service NSW is using digital innovation to deliver the services that matter to customers, such as getting a birth certificate, Seniors Card, renewing vehicle registration and much more,” a spokesperson for Service NSW said.
Donna Ryan queried whether when the department said “the new Service Centre will...give residents and businesses access to the same range of services available at Coffs Harbour and Kempsey”, that also applied to Saturday trading.
Nope, is the blunt answer.
“The Service Centre at Nambucca Heads will have the same operating hours as the motor registry and open between 9am and 4pm on Mondays to Fridays,” the Service NSW spokesperson said.
So, bad luck for those of you with a full-time Monday-Friday job. You will still need to head on up to Coffs to renew your rego etc. if you can’t get any time off work...unless you do it online.
If you’re dissatisfied with how this is all panning out, then the best thing you could do is put it in writing to your local State Government member, Mel Pavey: oxley@parliament.nsw.gov.au
