But this Daffodil Day, on August 24, is a time to remember those struck down by that hidden and persistent aggressor in our midst – cancer – and the people who dedicate their lives to vanquishing it from our society once and for all.
As daffodils embody the hope of new beginnings, the Cancer Council’s largest fundraiser also grows hope of a world without a diagnosis that strikes fear into so many hearts.
“Everyone knows someone who’s been affected by cancer. We’ve seen a lot of our tenants go through it and come out the other side,” the Roberts team said.
Roberts Nambucca Real Estate’s Daffodil Day has become a local tradition, raising $126,000 over the course of the past decade.
Last year the Nambucca Valley raised an impressive $14,000 to donate towards cancer research, and while staff know how tough times are at the moment, they are still trusting that this year’s generosity will see that amount matched again.
Donations for the mega raffle are coming in a little slower than in past years, but the team are hoping that local businesses are just keeping their aces up their sleeves until the last minute.
Having said that, there have already been a fair few incredibly generous donations from local supporters, including a front-loading washing machine by Trisley’s Betta Electrical.
“This raffle is one of our largest fundraising incomes as the community love the prizes and generosity the local businesses donate,” the team said.
Prizes can be brought into the office at any time, but the sooner, the better.
This Friday the Roberts team will be at the Nambucca Bowls Club from 4pm for their famous 100s club and to sell Daffodil Day merchandise.
And then next Friday is the big one, with the Nashos setting up their famous sausage sizzle stand – right outside the office on Bowra St – and cooking up snags from Nambucca Heads Butchery all day long.
The Daffodil’s 500s Club is always a popular part of the day, and this year punters will have a chance to walk away with a cool $300, while the remaining $1000 balance will be donated to the Cancer Council’s research efforts.
So get ready for another great day of community spirit and help bring our world one step closer to a cancer-free future.
