Council’s assistant general manager of engineering services, Paul Gallagher, said that while the roadworks were due to be completed in April, there is a good reason why they were delayed again.
“We had put back the work for Mann St to after the school holidays due to the potential additional traffic; it requires three different pavement techniques so it will be complex under traffic movements,” he said.
“We moved the team onto another project on Rodeo Drive and works will commence after we finish Rodeo Drive.”
And while the further delay will undoubtedly get some Nambucca Heads locals hot under the collar, there is a silver lining to these latest pushbacks.
Originally, only the short section of road from the roundabout to the service station was scheduled for the April upgrade, with budget restrictions requiring the section from the Caltex to the water tower to be held over to the coming financial year.
Ostensibly, this delay now means that both sections could be done in succession, thus limiting road closures/traffic disruptions to locals to one period instead of the original two.
BACKGROUND:
“That will only leave the section from the water tower towards town which will complete the entire upgrade of Mann Street from Old Coast Road to the CBD,” Mr Gallagher said.
Patience may be waning, but the hopeful news is that Nambucca Heads motorists will have a much smoother ride into 2019.
