As any geographer will tell you, sand dunes are a temporary feature of the landscape. But in these times of climate change, sea-level rise and extreme storms, any dunes provide useful protection to the land behind.

Walking by the sea at Stuarts Point, I was surprised to see how the foredunes are being eroded. At high tide there is no beach for 4WD vehicles to drive along.
Instead, some drivers are creating new tracks by driving along the top of the foredunes - for hundreds of metres!
Such behaviour is hard to believe. But the tracks of 4WD vehicles are there for all to see. One track even breaches the main dunes.
These thoughtless drivers need to be reported, fined, and have their beach access permits cancelled. Besides damaging dunes and vegetation, such behaviour gives all 4WD drivers a bad name.
