LA NINA has certainly made itself felt on The Island Golf Course at Nambucca Heads - but surprisingly, the East Coast Lows that we experienced this time last year had delivered around the same rainfall. We probably didn't notice it that much because we were so happy to see the rain after the drought and bushfires!

The forecast for the remainder of this week indicates much less wet stuff, so hopefully, we'll be able to allow golf carts and scooters back on the course.
On Tuesday February 23, the course was open to walkers only - 20 of them! Bradley Dyet (9 handicap) from Kempsey scored 36 points to win the day's trophy voucher. Ball winners were John Landale (Coffs), Michael Tarleton and Ken Elley (Toronto) both 35, Brody Clarke (Kempsey) 33 and Diane Elley (Kurri) with 31 points.
Greg McCoy needed a briefcase to collect most of the NTPs - on 5, 7 and 8. Chris Swam got Stu's Ball on 15. The 18th not returned.
The Ladies Opening Day last week was postponed to Wednesday March 10 due to the weather and waterlogged course conditions, as was Thursday's Medley Stableford.
Saturday was a Medley Single Stableford with 52 starters - with bunkers out of play and preferred lies through the green. Philip Mander (13) revelled in these conditions, top scoring for the day with 42 points to win Division 1 (scratch to 18) from Bruce Berry (4) with 40 points - good golfing guys!
In Division 2, Paul McElhinney (20) scored 37 points to win Division 2 (19 to 45) from Gary Roach (26) with 36 points. Other good scores were returned by Steve Frost and Peter Farrell 38, and Graham Watson, Peter Moxon, Andrew Johnston and Michael Kenny (Sawtell) all with 36 points.
NTPs went to Paddy Byrne on 2, Jenny Johnston on 7 to just 38cm, Phil Mander got Stu's ball on 15. Bruce Berry won't go hungry this week, cleaning up the food vouchers 8, 13, and a ball on 5 and the Pro Pin around $50 on the 18th.
Meanwhile, our greens staff have a new coring machine which will vastly improve drainage on our greens - this and other treatments should assist in eliminating the pythium root rot causing brown patches on the greens which has been plaguing us over the years.
Men's pennants are imminent. The competition opens on Sunday April 11 - and members wishing to represent their club and play this exciting format are asked to place their details on the nomination form on the golf noticeboard.
Our new Club Management System has been installed throughout the club, and the golf system module will swing into action on Tuesday March 9. Members will need to change their old passwords to access the new system and Member's Portal - contact the office if you need assistance.
Next week's golf will see Medley Single Stablefords on Tuesday and Thursday with the Men's Monthly Medal and start of this year's Eclectic on Saturday. Friday will see a 9 hole Chook Run. March 14 will be The Island Sunday Mixed 4BBB Stableford - invite your friends to this fun open day, teeing off from 10am.
See you on the Island!
