Emergency services were called at 10.20 am to the scene of the accident - a sharp bend at the intersection of Stuarts Point Rd and Lukes Lane, Barraganyatti.
The driver was able to get out of the crane unaided, but was taken to hospital by paramedics to treat his head injuries.
A larger crane was called to right the smaller articulated crane which had rolled.
Macksville Fire and Rescue helped local Rural Fire Services to clean up a small oil spill.
And council had to relay some tar to repair damaged road where the crane had rolled.
