Julie Clayton from Missabotti shared her daughter's shock encounter on Monday.
"Whilst sitting on the stairs in front of the Rotary stage on the Macksville riverfront, my daughter Alex was startled when a Red Belly Black snake slithered up beside her," she said.
"A little shaken from her close encounter, Alex calmly watched it make its way up the stairs.
"The one metre-long snake was last seen heading along the footpath towards the War Memorial.
"Dog walkers, parents with children etc. watch your step!"
Meanwhile in Nambucca, another person had a similar tale to tell.
Letisha Dyer snapped a photo of an unknown species of snake sliding beneath the new walkway between Shelly Beach and the V-Wall at around 6pm on Monday evening.
The social media post she made after alerting people to the fact attracted wide speculation as to the species of the snake.
Some guessed it might be an Eastern Brown, while others speculated it could just as easily be a Tiger. One person was convinced it was a Death Adder as it was believed one had taken up residence in the nearby rocks.
Regardless, perhaps the best course of action is to make sure sturdy footwear is worn along that stretch from now on.
