It's all up in the air this year for the 2020 Melbourne Cup.
With many internationals out of the running, that leaves our (relatively unknown) Australian horses to shine.
Even form analysts and big punters are struggling to pick a winner this year. Will you?
But if there's one winner already, it's the Nambucca Heads RSL Club, which has managed to put on another spectacular affair this year in spite of it all.
The room is decked in finery, and so are the guests, clearly keen to doll up and make an appearance at a social do before the year is out.
Over 300 people have turned out to dine at the biggest club in the valley, with more walking in every few minutes.
Many are locals, but there's also a good contingent from Armidale, Tamworth, and Yamba. One lucky local mother had her dreams come true when she was surprised with a visit from two of her sons - one from Queensland, the other from Penrith.
The atmosphere is already electric in anticipation of the big race. And except for the necessary COVID protocols in place, you could almost forget about the happenings of this year and lose yourself in the champagne and good company.
It was truly a delight to witness so many people out enjoying themselves after so long.
