Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan said the funding was for the tourism sector and tourism-related infrastructure, which in turn would support local jobs and stimulate local economies.
"Tourism is so important to our region, with the accommodation and hospitality sectors providing about 26 per cent of local jobs ... this extra investment is welcome and much needed at this time as we recover from COVID-19," Mr Conaghan said.
This funding will complement the $200 million announced by the Government for Round 5 of the Building Better Regions Fund.
Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham said tourism regions had been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and this would help them to recover firstly by attracting more Australians and then overseas visitors when our international borders re-open.
"This targeted new fund will support internationally dependent tourism regions to adapt their offerings, experiences and marketing to appeal to domestic visitors in the short-term and be in the strongest possible position to welcome back international tourists down the track," Mr Birmingham said.
Both the Recovery for Regional Tourism Program and Building Better Regions Fund Round 5 will be competitive grants to be opened soon.
