Given neither local police nor firies were alerted to anything, and therefore have no record of the occurrence, we thought we'd see what a Facebook shout out on our Guardian News page revealed.
What we received were lots of imaginative explanations (for which we sincerely thank you!) and a few more plausible suggestions.
Here are some shared thoughts:
A bomb, a hunt for wild buffalo, the new White House Movie, a meth lab going up ...
Maybe a transformer at Valla?
Another person said it was kids "hooning around" in a four wheel drive that hit a speed bump, which blew out their tyres.
Anyone able to help us with the facts here? We don't want to lead you astray with 'fake' news.
