And that is what they want to continue to do but they need your help ...
With the imminent retirement of long-time group leader Maxine Garrud and a new committee of enthusiastic parents, the club urgently needs new members and leaders of all ages.
In fact, without leaders for each section in training and one for the group, the club will not be able to re-open in Term 4, which members say would be a shame as it is the only scout group in the Nambucca Valley and its surrounds.
"With Maxine's retirement and the new committee we are having a complete reset ... we need a new group leader, and leaders in every section," committee member Darron Hall said.
"All the training is done in-house and online with the club paying all the fees - we have good community support but we can't do anything without leaders."
Club secretary Bec Dollin said the thing that stood out most at the club was the fun everyone had.
"All the kids are from completely different backgrounds but once you are through that door, everyone is the same," Bec said.
"The kids go camping and hiking on weekends and here at weekly meetings, they learn skills like knot-tying, firelighting and so much more ... they are great life-skills."
Treasurer Nikky said while some activities were limited at the moment due to COVID, everyone was looking forward to getting back to normal and back outdoors.
"We have easy access to canoes and an amazing river, we take the kids fishing and learn all sorts of leadership skills, event planning, outdoor skills and life skills," Nikky said.
"The kids learn how to organise their own food and packs for overnight adventures - the spirit is very inclusive and we encourage siblings and parents to get involved as well."
Darron said scouting fitted the bill perfectly for kids who might not be interested in sport and whose parents wanted to see them outdoors and away from computer screens.
"We have so much to offer - we just need some help to keep this going and keep our doors open," he said.
And Scouting does not have to be expensive - there are rebates possible, through the NSW Government's Active Kids program and also Scouts NSW. Membership costs $90/10-week term.
