Police approached a 2000 white Holden ute on Wallace St to conduct a roadside breath test (RBT) in the early hours of yesterday.
Police said the vehicle sped away before they could carry out the test.
They pursued the driver - seen to be wearing a grey hoodie and black face mask - into Upper Warrell Creek Rd, before the ute turned back into Wallace St and onto the first fairway of the Macksville Country Club golf course.
It is alleged the ute then left the golf course and turned into a driveway of a house in Wallace Street where the driver ran from the scene.
The man was eventually located and, police said he struggled violently during his arrest, before being subdued and restrained.
He was charged with nine offences with bail refused and will appear before the Kempsey Local Court today.
