Lions make mincemeat of Saints

The sun was shining for the first day of August, and what a day it was for the Nambucca Valley Lions who put on a magnificent display, taking down the Sawtell Saints 11.6-72 to 4.7-31.

The Lions attacked and struck early, bagging two quick goals within a couple of minutes of the first quarter.

From then on, they didn't look back, maintaining the lead for the whole game.

Aaron Clarke dominated in the ruck, winning almost every contest, and giving the Lions midfielders plenty of options to work with as they made their clearances from the centre.

Coach Leif Stuart had his first game back and put on a show, kicking three goals and looking red hot as full forward.

Daniel McInerney played a solid game, kicking a goal and making some terrific plays.

A big shoutout to new young guns - Brad Doolan, Zane Doolan and Beau Langford - who played their first game on Saturday and played very well, with Beau snagging a goal. A few more games under their belts and they'll be a force to be reckoned with, no doubt!

Other honorable mentions were youngest Lion on field Brayden Pianta finding plenty of space out wide to use his speed, bagging his first goal for the season.

The Lions backline gelled well again this week, with a standout performance by Haydn Suridge, with tight defense and good ground coverage, kicking a goal in his second ever game of Aussie Rules.

The Lions are hungry for success and are looking to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to Coffs Harbour next weekend to take on the Breakers.
