44th Valla Rod Run cancelled due to COVID

September was meant to mark the 44th Valla Rod Run - an event that's become a Nambucca Valley institution, and loved by many locals as much as the hot rodders themselves.

But tonight, the Run became the latest local event to be felled by the swift blade of COVID.

"It is with regret the Drag-ens must advise that early this evening, the management at Valla Beach Tourist Park officially confirmed that all accommodation facilities within Valla Park have been closed, including the 2020 Valla Beach Rod Run," the event committee posted on Facebook.

"The Park have advised that at this time of uncertainty and with further likely outbreaks of COVID-19, they believe that for the safety of their guests, residents and staff, the Tourist Park should remain closed until at least late December or early January, 2021."

It is around this time of year when local businesses start gearing up for the swell of trade brought in by motoring events like the Rod Run or the VW Spectacular.

The absence of that custom, and indeed of the parade of purring machines will likely be keenly felt by many in the Nambucca this spring.
