But despite the NSW Government's deadline of June 30 for the completion of the state's clean-up, 24 properties in the Nambucca are yet to be cleared.

"It's appalling that it's now eight months after the bushfire here and there are people still not able to do any rebuilding work on their properties," Mayor Hoban said.

In April Guardian News reported that while COVID-19 had introduced a new challenge to bushfire recovery, Laing O'Rourke's Clean-up Project Director Paul Barrie said the project remained on track to be completed by its June 30 deadline.

"Laing O'Rourke is determined to maintain momentum and keep delivering tangible help on the ground," Mr Barrie said.

"We look forward to ramping up even further in the weeks ahead as we work with local subcontractors to get the job done."

But during Senate questioning two weeks ago, Federal Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said that the clean-up of properties damaged during the Black Summer bushfires will now be complete by the end of July, a month later than the original deadline.

According to the NSW Bushfire Cleanup Info Hub, only 2,800 properties out of the over 5000 registered properties in NSW have been completed as of June 30.

Mayor Hoban addressed the delay with Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan on Wednesday when he was here to announce funding for our local roads.

Mr Conaghan told Guardian News that immediately following that discussion he had rung National Disasters Minister David Littleproud to find out what was happening and to expedite the clean-up in the Nambucca.
