Minister for Water, Property and Housing and Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey has announced almost $335,000 in improvement works to five local showgrounds as part of the NSW Government COVID-19 stimulus package.

Ms Pavey said Macksville, Wauchope, Dorrigo, Kempsey and Comboyne showgrounds have been approved for upgrade work to improve the safety, use and condition of their infrastructure and support jobs in the local economy.
"Showgrounds are multi-use facilities for a range of groups and activities from agricultural shows, rodeos and horse clubs to farmers markets, festivals, camping, men's sheds, and sport and cultural events," Ms Pavey said.
"When COVID-19 hit it forced the postponement or cancellation of agricultural shows and many activities that showgrounds rely on for their income.
"This latest investment by the NSW Government will provide a welcome boost for our local showgrounds and the communities they serve by supporting tradies and suppliers with work and strengthening showground infrastructure for the future."
The latest upgrades in the local area will include:
- $20,795 for Macksville Showground to repair drains and broken pipes and install two new pits
- $230,974 for Dorrigo Showground to upgrade its stockyards and upgrade over 300 metres of bitumen roads
- $48,224 for Wauchope Showground to install four new electronic security gates
- $21,500 for the drainage and resurfacing of the covered arena at Kempsey Showground
- $13,500 to replace the timber steps at Comboyne Showground with new all-weather concrete steps.
"These local showgrounds are among 153 across the state getting work this financial year, and these works will help maintain the momentum on NSW efforts to lead the nation's economic recovery from COVID-19," Mrs Pavey said.
