The new Macksville District Hospital has welcomed its first baby into the world after officially opening the doors early last week.
James Matthew Preston was born at 11.58 pm on May 28, weighing 3.24kgs. Midwife Stephen Barber helped welcome James into the world and, as coincidences would have it, also assisted with the delivery of the last baby born at the old hospital.
This isn't the first child for seasoned parents Jess and Luke, but it is the first one of their children to make history.
"It was kind of strange to be the first; everything was all new, the midwife Stephen Barber was fantastic though it all went very smoothly," Jess said.
"That's why I chose Macksville Hospital in the first place, it's close, and the midwives there are fantastic."
Baby James joins older siblings Saria and Oliver.
