Through a combined effort from the Valla Beach Community Association (VBCA), and the Nambucca Valley Council, the netball court project beat more than 1500 others to be one of 248 successful applications that shared in $24.7 million.
"VBCA were instrumental in getting this over the line," Nambucca Valley Council Grants and Contributions Officer Teresa Boorer said.
"The success of this project is a great example of how communities and local government can work together to the mutual benefit of everyone."
While VBCA and council did most of the work in implementing the project, financial officer Tracey Suter says the idea initially came from the community.
"The VBCA was approached by parents interested in getting a netball court for the area, and we took the idea to the community to see if there was an interest, which there was," she said.
"Once the project was listed on the My Community Program website, our volunteers did letter drops, advertising, Facebook posts; they worked tirelessly.
"We have a great team of volunteers and couldn't do things like this without them."
The Valla Beach Community Association has been very active since its inception; past projects have included the playground at Andersons Park, the cricket nets, and the toilet blocks.
"The netball courts will no doubt prove to a great boon for our Valla Beach community, thank you to the Nambucca Valley council for their support, supervision, and installation of this project," VBCA president, John Windmill said.
"And thank you to Tracy Suter for all the work she did in applying for this grant."
The courts at Anderson Park are ready to go, and once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted they will be free for anyone to use.
