While conditions early in the morning were glassy and consistent, by the time the competition got underway the wind had come up things got rather choppy.
There were still plenty of waves off the point coming in at over a metre and we saw some nice surfing, particularly in the juniors where some new members to the club mixed it up with the regulars. In the Juniors, Lilly Lawson produced the standout performance of the morning with Poppy Johnston and Rylee Godfrey Martin hot on her heals.
Jonah Werner, Kasey Lawson and Winnie Johnston also surfed well in the strongest junior field we have seen for a long time at the Loggerheads.
As always the Old Mal category was the spectator favourite and our 2019 Club Champion, Mark Fuller, came up with the strongest rides of the heat to pick up a win ahead of Troy Martin, Joel Parkhouse and Tom Johnston who all put their classic boards though their paces.
By the time the open heats came around the chop was playing havoc with the surf however Jonah Werner, Lilly Lawson and Geoff Gardner were able to surf well and selected great waves in their heats.
Mark Fuller and Geoffrey Woodhouse also continued to show class on the water over the morning.
Please keep and eye on the Loggerheads Malibu Club Facebook page for information on our next event.
It is with regret that I advise that the 2020 Loggerheads Classic, scheduled for July 2020 at Scotts Head has had to be cancelled due to the virus related health restriction currently in place.
The Loggerheads intend to hold a classic again in July 2021.
