Shirley Willis is the Nambucca Valley Arts Council's 'Artist of the Month" for March. Shirley has called her exhibition 'Moments and Memories" which reflects the fact that she nearly always paints subjects that enable her to relive and enjoy the past. "When I paint I find that I become suspended from the 'present' and revel in a world of make-believe and possibility," Shirley said. "While I often don't end up fulfilling the possibilities, it is fun trying. My painting style probably reflects my personality and workplace experiences in that it is graphic rather than abstract. "I also tend towards detail in preference to flamboyance, controlled rather than experimental and careful rather than impulsive." Shirley, who works in pastels, has included works from her childhood in the cold country, her life in Canberra, sailing in Victoria and bushwalking days. A morning tea will be held at the Stringer Gallery in Ridge St, Nambucca Heads on Wednesday, March 4 from 10am to launch the exhibition. Everyone is welcome.
