In 1967 there were 200 students enrolled in Year 7 or First Form at Macksville High School, and in future years many came to the school, and others moved on to other schools or to training or work.
By 1972, the HSC class representing the 1967 first formers (as it was then) were 52 students - 29 girls and 23 boys.
Darryl Gough, who is part of the organising group, said Facebook and other social media has made it easy to find some students, but it is difficult with the girls who have mostly changed their names.
"We have been able to trace many through family connections in the Nambucca Valley but we still have nearly 25 that we can't find," he said.
Vicki Morrison, also on the organising team, said they have come to know about 15 people who have passed away. This former class mates will be remembered at the reunion.
"We are hoping that through the newspaper we may reach a few more people via old family connections, and friends of friends," Vicki said.
"It has been fascinating finding people - what they've been doing, where they're living. We know a few live overseas now, many are retired, many have grandchildren."
"This may be the last organised reunion so take the opportunity to catch up with old school mates!"
The organising group has established a private Facebook page called Macksville High School 1967 Year1 aka year 7 and has attracted 90 members and there are another 78 people with phone and email contacts.
The date for the reunion celebration is Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 5pm at the Macksville Ex-Services Club.
Tickets available now at the club or phone them for other options. Phone 02 65681344.
