In recent months many Nambucca Valley residents have suffered devastating loss but many many more have stepped up to help, giving of their time, labour, goods, cash and a listening ear. It would be un-Australian not to put aside our differences and help those in need. It's something we are famous for as a nation and although hard to define most refer to it as "Aussie spirit".

When it really matters, our differences are unimportant and that's worth celebrating.
So bring your family and friends and come along and celebrate Australia Day with the Family Fun Day at Gordon Park.
There will be plenty of fun activities, market stalls, food stalls, entertainment as well as children's activities.
This year we will be having a watermelon eating contest along with a bed race, with plenty of great prizes to be won.
Browse a selection of plants, clothing, jewellery and other goods for sale, or pull up a pew for some classic Country music, line dancing, ukulele players and our wonderful District Band.
And there'll be a slippery slide, jumping castle, face painting, inflatable rock wall, animal zoo, cup and saucer merry-go-round, and fairy floss for the kids.
A new attraction to the day will be joy flights by Affinity Helicopters, you can book on the day or call Justin on 0423 548-938.
And with all these activities, you're sure to work up an appetite. Rest assured there'll be good coffee, smoothies and German sausages, pizza, ribs, Vietnamese food, crepes, donuts and corn on the cob to feast on.
We're in for a great day thanks to the hard work and Aussie spirit of the organising committee, and the sponsors: Lions International, Nambucca Heads RSL Club, the Guardian News, Marine Rescue, NSW Volunteer Rescue Association, Nambucca Heads and Valla Chamber of Commerce, and the Nambucca Valley Council.
It will be a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to everyone in the Valley who has stepped up to help in the wake of the fires and for everyone to step aside from the devastation for one day and celebrate all of the things we have to be thankful for as citizens of Australia.
Bring your chair sit back and relax whilst listening to some great music whilst enjoying a Sausage Sanger or a Prawn Roll, its going to be a great day to celebrate the great country we live in.
We are raffling two tickets to the Elton John concert along with transport to and from the event, raffle tickets are on sale on the day or at Nambucca Heads RSL Club the local Nambucca Lions Clubs boys will be selling tickets at Nambucca Plaza and up town.
All proceeds of the ticket sales along with money raised on the day will go to our Local Rural Fire Services.
Our Fun Day starts at 9am on Sunday, January 26, and the RSL Courtesy Bus will be running on the hour from the Nambucca Plaza down to Gordon Park.
