It's now been almost two years since $2.18 million was promised to link the existing paths with a new one from Florence Wilmont Dr in the Kingsworth Estate to Nursery Rd in North Macksville.
Guardian News was told by Council last October that the bike path construction was expected to start in November.
Project engineer Stephen Fowler said the wait was due to complications in releasing the funding from the State Government.
With multiple government departments involved in funding the project "some clarification was needed in funding arrangements," he said.
And while the funding for the two end sections - from Florence Wilmont Dr to Lumsden Lane and from Champions Lane to Nursery Rd had been released, the funding for the middle section is still mired in bureaucracy: "It is still an ongoing process".
"But there's no doubt about whether we'll get the funding," he said.
Local earthmoving company Fortade have been contracted to build the two end sections of bike path, and will start work around Florence Wilmont Dr from next week.
Mr Fowler said the bridge over Watt Creek is being pre-made and estimates that it will be dropped into place some time in March.
