Fires swept through the upper reaches of the Nambucca Valley

On November 8 our valley was alight and disaster unfolded ... it was the harbinger of the catastrophic fire season that is still unfolding all around the country.

At this point in time, there were reports of properties lost but the true impact of the devastation had not yet been revealed.

Some residents experienced the most terrifying night of their lives, emerging from the experience shell-shocked and homeless.

McHughes Creek, Williams Hill Rd, South Arm Rd and Taylors Arm Rd were the worst hit areas.

The shire is still recovering from this terrible time with the total number of homes lost eventually nudging 60.
