In February it was the story about depleted fish stocks in the Nambucca River that rated the highest, with the oft heard cries of alarm from recreational fishers rising a few decibels, inflamed by a story we published in November with a statement from Department of Primary Industries that the quantity of fish taken commercially from the Nambucca River had dropped by 80 per cent.
Local recreational fishermen disputed the figures citing years of anecdotal evidence that the decline was instead due to a severe decline in fish numbers.
