CRICKET legend and Macksville treasure the late Phillip Hughes loved nothing more than spending time with his friends whenever he was back home.
When he wasn't wearing the baggy green, Phillip would be a mainstay at the Bowraville Racecourse on Boxing Day.
He would have been well pleased to see the good crowd trackside today at the meeting named in his honour.
This event is traditionally a time for locals to 'catch-up' - whether they reside in the Nambucca Valley or are back from elsewhere for a few days' break.
On course, there were many family groups - some in the corporates' section and others hunkered down beneath sun-shielding marquees.
The bookies were kept almost as busy as the bar staff, while a good wave of camaraderie enveloped all.
