VISITORS are forever embraced, but if there's one race meeting of the year at Bowraville that is a celebration for locals its undoubtedly the Boxing Day Phillip Hughes Memorial Day.
Named in honour of the late great cricket Test batsman who never forgot Macksville was home, the carnival meeting has traditionally been an event where current and returning residents get-together to reflect on the special joy of living in the Nambucca Valley.
Last year the cars lining the road showed it was a monster turnout, though a quick glimpse from the shimmering pavement presented the question: where the people at?
Being locals, being smart, being a typical hot summers day in Bowraville, those in the know were in the stands, betting ring and function centre (code for in the blinkin shade).
Last year's event was spectacular with great weather, strong fields and a bumper crowd.
The Jockey Club is pleased to advise that, this year, in spite of the dry conditions, the track is still in excellent condition and the whole of the racecourse area is as picturesque as has been seen for many a year.
Will you be there?
