Since BlazeAid opened its doors in Macksville less than two weeks ago, they have received over 100 requests for help from local property owners affected by the Kian Rd fire.

Similarly the response from willing volunteers from the local community has been overwhelming for coordinators who are used to seeing mostly grey nomads come through their doors to offer their services.
"This is the first camp I've worked at - and I've worked at quite a few now - where there's been more townies offering to help than those travelling through," one organiser said.
"It's blown us away."
Having said that they are still in dire need of more volunteers for fence crews to deal with the huge numbers of requests on their system.
And they're particularly in need of a retired mechanic or handyman to be the camp's 'tool man'. He or she will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the BlazeAid trailers - sharpening tools, checking fuel levels, general repairs. They would be needed from 6.30am ahead of fence crews being deployed, and then again from 3pm as crews and trailers return. A daily meal will be supplied to any person willing to take on the role.
BlazeAid Coordinators also wanted to issue a clarification about changes to the way funding assistance is being dispensed, and apologise for any confusion that has been caused by the change:
"You may have heard about or seen a Facebook post that a new approach to the provision of fencing materials by BlazeAid is to be implemented. The purpose of this message is to clarify any misunderstandings raised by that post.
"Unfortunately the BlazeAid Inc Voucher system used to request post and wire funding assistance from BlazeAid has been withdrawn and will not be used unless exceptional circumstances arise.
"From this point forward it is intended that BlazeAid may provide some fencing materials on a case by case basis and will continue to offer BlazeAid teams to clear fence lines and reconstruct fencing at no labour cost to you.
"This action has been prompted by the overwhelming response BlazeAid has had for requests to assist."
