The 52-year-old man became trapped in the town after his home was destroyed. He attempted to flee, borrowing a neighbour's vehicle.
When this was unsuccessful, he returned to his neighbour's property to seek shelter.
He was found in the home the following day with severe burns to 35 per cent of his body and airlifted to hospital.

High range reading
On Saturday evening police arrested a 45-year-old man after he returned a positive reading during a RBT on Cooper St, Macksville. The man underwent a breath analysis at Macksville Police Station and returned a high range reading of 0.229.
He was issued a licence suspension and a court attendance notice to appear before Macksville Local Court on January 9, 2020.
Domestic assault
Police arrested a 42-year-old man at a Nambucca Heads address on November 13 following a domestic assault on a 51-year-old woman.
The victim sustained a facial injury as a result of the incident. The man was charged at Macksville Police Station and later released on bail to appear before Macksville Local Court today (Thursday).
