Generations of one family, including its newest member and also a newly graduated one, got together around one table ... while at another, daughters (three of five) honoured their mother.
One visitor from Minnesota, USA, enjoyed her first taste of the "race that stops the nation", as did a bus load of guests from the Gold Coast (although not for the first time!).
At 3pm a hush descended ... and then the cheering began as the horses took off for their annual dash.
Australian mount, Vow and Declare, ridden by Craig Williams won the day ... and there were a few whoops of joy to be heard!
Master of Reality came second with Prince of Arran third.
The champagne is out for the winners ... while the rest of us go home and wait for next year.
