THE MACKSVILLE Marlins Swimming Club will be the toast of the coast on Saturday as more than 140 athletes strive to hit qualifying times at the club's annual carnival.

Swimmers will come from as far afield as Armidale, and Mid North Coast participating clubs include Forster, Port Macquarie, Nambucca Heads, Kempsey, Bellingen and Grafton among others.

Times recorded at the Macksville pool can lead to entry for the Division 1 Area Championships at Port Macquarie at the end of November and the NSW Senior State Age titles in December, as well as the State Junior State Age, Country and National championships in 2020.

Many racers will enter multiple events, like Macksville's Declan Sutton who is down for nine starts. All up, organisers expect around 860 entries.

The carnival will see hundreds of people come to the Valley - the swimmers, their family and friends and a small armada of officials.

Warm-ups will start at 8am, and the racing on Saturday will be underway from 9am through to around 3pm.
