Cane toad found in Urunga

A cane toad found on the Newry Island bridge at Urunga was brought into Midcoast Vets clinic for identification at the end of September.

Theclinic contacted the Department of Primary Industries, who requested that locals keep an eye out for cane toads in the area.

DPI has a flyer on their website that explains how to identify a cane toad and what to do if you think you have found one.

The flyer says to catch it but don't harm it, as it may actually be a native frog. Make sure you wear gloves, glasses and long sleeves before touching it.

If you can do so safely, trap it in a well-ventilated, non-toxic container with a little water.

Take a picture of the animal and report it using the online form www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/biosecurityreport
