"Despite cooler conditions across the firegrounds a mountain of work remains for firefighters in north eastern NSW. On three fires alone there is more than 1080km of fire edge that needs to be contained, mopped up and blacked out.
"This distance is equivalent of driving from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast. This dirty and often dangerous work includes extinguishing trees on fire, or candles as firefighters know them, so when strong winds return fires don't spread past these containment lines and impact on people and properties."
In the video below of the Bees Nest Fire shot by Toby Lucas from the NSW RFS Red Hill brigade, you can hear the firefighters chuckling in awe at the strangely beautiful sight of a fiery tree shedding embers right in front of them.
