Photographers of all abilities are being encouraged to enter the Your Health Link National Photographic Competition, which opens today in conjunction with World Photo Day.
The prestigious competition is run by the Mid North Coast Local Health District, as part of the Your Health Link initiative, a strategy aimed at enhancing community understanding of health and health care information, and how people can apply that information to their lives.
An online health education tool, Your Health Link provides a wide range of information on health facts, support and counselling services, legal, finance and housing, mental health, drug and alcohol, sexual health and more.
Program Manager Carolyn Guichard said the photographic competition is part of a wider strategy to foster a connection between health and the arts.
The competition includes a school section providing prizes to support healthy school canteen programs.
"Entrants in the competition actively participate in creating visual images to represent the competition theme 'Healthy Life, Healthy You'," Ms Guichard said.
"Through the photographic process, the entrants are required to investigate the subject matter and thereby increase their health knowledge.
"Proceeds from the competition, which has been made possible thanks to the generosity of our partners, will go towards supporting health programs run by the Mid North Coast Local Health District."
The competition offers a host of prizes in the categories of Mobile Photography, Open, Primary and High School.
Information about the competition, including entry details, is available online after 19 August at www.yourhealthlinkphotocomp.com.au
Entries close on 13 October and the winners will be announced at an exhibition of the finalists at Sails Resort in Port Macquarie on November 22.
