Nobody is indispensible and Council and this community will function very well without me. I have however gone to some trouble to time this such that the community will be spared the expense of a by-election to replace me.
I should pay tribute to council staff whose dedication to making this community more livable has resulted in exactly that.
This is particularly true of senior staff and our mayor whose ability to resolve issues in perhaps unconventional ways (and for which they will never get the credit they deserve) has saved our residents from a great deal of angst and risk.
Residents who are sometimes peeved at the way they have been treated by staff should remember in most cases those staff are simply administering regulations imposed on us by state government and over which neither staff nor councillors have any control.
It has been an interesting 11 years and I thank those people who gave me the opportunity to serve.
