"The committee is still working hard behind the scenes to have the seniors return next year... we may be down this year, but we are not out," 2018 Champion Reserve grade coach Caryl Jarrett said to Guardian News earlier this year.
It's not the first time the Roosters have clawed back into the competition after near-death.
But next year there's added motivation to get the flock crowing again; 2020 marks 100 years since the Roosters hatched.
That hundred years has borne many legends of league, like George Smith, Pat Broderick, Rod Urquhart, Michael Mills and Michael Andrews.
And they've had moments of pure glory, like in 1962, which brought the first premiership win for the club under local boy Col Andrews. Just two years later they did it again.
The 70s heralded a new style of coaching under Jim Cody and the Nambucca boys brought it home no fewer than three times, and finished up minor premiers or runners up almost every other season.
The 90s was another decade of the golden rooster with back-to-back premierships under the wing of Rick Stone.
Nambucca was named Group 2 Club Champions in '92 after fielding a team in every grand final grade. And as you walk through the entrance of the Nambucca Leagues Club you'll spy the '93 golden trifecta of team photos: first and second grade and U18 premiers.
It's a living history well-worth preserving.
So with the historic milestone looming, the current committee is already working to secure the senior club's reentry into Group 2. As the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm.
The first task at hand is planning a trivia night to raise some much needed capital and to rally the town around the club.
"It should be a fun-filled night that will hopefully bring awareness that the club is still around - we haven't gone anywhere," club president Kelvin Jarrett said.
And we'll be around for a long time to come if we can tap into that community support.
"When you talk about a club that's been here for one hundred years, and that I've been involved with on and off for the past thirty years, it means a great deal to me personally to preserve it. And I hope it means a great deal to the community too."
The trivia night is planned for 6.30pm Friday, July 19, down in the Wahoo Lounge of the Golden Sands Tavern.
There'll be lucky door prizes alongside prizes for winning teams, and sporting memorabilia to be auctioned off.
