Local Gary Witte has been in charge of the Macksville Country Club bowls event since its inception, and he says it gets better every year.
"This year was fantastic; it just keeps getting better. We had a good afternoon of bowls; two greens were full, there were a lot of new bowlers keen to try out the game," he said.
The day aims to raise money for charity, but it's also about having fun and local teams vying for bragging rights.
"We had quite a few teams this year; Triple M Promotions did their outside broadcast and had a few teams compete, there were also teams from Bowravillle, Macksville, and Nambucca Heads," Witte said.
"It's all a bit of fun; we mostly play for bragging rights. The Macksville team had a good run of wins there, but they couldn't beat the great group from Bowravillle this year, they won the day."
Aside from the bowls, there was also a raffle, an auction and a coin bucket that saw a surprising amount of donations.
"We had a bucket where people could donate small change, by the end, it was so full we needed two blokes to carry it out, there would have been over a thousand dollars just from peoples unwanted shrapnel," Witte said.
"A special mention goes to Bill Witt, who is an absolute legend; he has been making pickles and jams for the last ten months, and has raised just under $1000.
"It's all going to Macksville Hospital, what we raise in Macksville, stays here."
The club raises an average of eight to ten thousand dollars each year from their bowls day; this year, that number is significantly higher, and Gary insists it's a credit to the generosity of the community.
"Local butchers donated all the food, and bakers, we are indebted to the community, we can't thank all the businesses and sponsors who contributed enough, the Nashos, Triple M, the Lions club, they've all done a lot to help this great cause," he said.
