The record attempt will take place on Sunday, September 1, Fathers Day ... Day Two of the much-loved rally held annually at the Macksville Showgrounds.
Organising committee member Elaine South said that should the record be broken ("and we are confident it will!), it will be recorded in the Australian Book of Records under the 'Feats of Engineering' section of the next publication.
"The book's presenters, record-holding rally drivers Helen and John Taylor, will be present as adjudicators and will also have copies of the Australian Book of Records for sale," Elaine said.
"There is already a lot of interest and I understand should we break the world record we would also be recognised by the Guiness Book of Records!"
The requirement is for engines to be safe, going and older than 30 years. The previous record was for 205 engines in South Africa in 2007.

The Rusty Iron Rally is presented by the Mid North Coast Machinery Restoration Club and will be held on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.
The 2019 "Charity of Choice" is Lismore-based Stand By Response, an organisation that gives support to those left to deal with the aftermath of losing someone close to suicide.
