The driver collected the passenger, aged in his 20s, from Greens Road, South Dandenong on Friday about 1.40pm before driving him to a property on Balmain Drive, Carrum Downs.
The passenger pulled out a knife and demanded cash before a scuffle led to the 38-year-old driver suffering a number of stab wounds to the arm, police say.
Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
