The youngster from Nambucca Heads lost by technical knockout in the seventh round when the ref stopped the battle with Brisbane's Reagan Dessaix in the seventh round.
Mitchell told his supporters he is already back in training, and an announcement on his next fight is imminent.
The result at the Seagulls club moved Dessaix's record to (17-2, 12 KO), who was said to be "a bit beyond Whitelaw in level and development".
Mitchell, whose record now stands at (5-2-1, 2 KO), has wasted no time though in dusting himself off and re-aligning his sights.
"Now the dust has settled I would like to thank each and every person that came to support me last night. Sorry I couldn't get the job done but that's not just boxing, that's life - you don't always get what you want even if you do put 110 per cent in," Mitchell told his friends.
"This loss has not one bit disheartened me at all - it's made me hungrier than ever to get back out into that ring and show this sport what I really have to offer."
