The FVPCPS team argued for the negative side, with first speaker, Samantha Sheridan, asserting that homework makes you smarter.
Sammy did a great job considering it was her first ever debate. The adjudicator, Kathy O'Dowell, indicated her arguments were well organised and logical, as was her definition of the topic.
Second speaker Katelyn Jones used her amazing eye contact and gestures, to convince everyone that literacy was important for all students.
The affirmative side argued students didn't have enough time to do their homework due to after-school activities. Katelyn fired back that kids could watch less TV to better take on their homework responsibilities.
This struck a chord with the adults in the room!
The school's rebuttal king, Nicholas Stone, was third up and shone as he cleverly deconstructed the affirmative side's arguments.
Nick was fierce as he persuaded the audience there were more than enough hours in the week to complete homework.
Team adviser Lachlan Clenton took notes throughout the debate, helping FPVC PS clinch the win with his mature insights and deep thinking.
The school community is very proud of the team - congratulations!
